APC-40 feedback leds

Post by gabrielefx »

Dear Sirs

finally I purchased the Sunlite 2 FC and one Akai APC-40 control surface.

I don't know how to have a feedback on my Apc hardware

If I set one event on the virtual console (Apc-40) and then I assign the button on my physical Apc when I press the correspondent button on the physical console the led is not illuminated, if I click on the virtual console the same button the apc physical button is illuminated.

I'm doing tests with the latest beta. September 28-2011

I think the APC-40 requires immediate feedback when a button is pressed for it to illuminate. There is an option on the setup tab on the right when you right click a controller. You need to set "Feedback when received control data" property under console settings->Console setup tab->midi data. (Don't get this confused with the MIDI feedback option.)

I tried this setting but doesn't work
any workaround?

Hi Gabrielefx,

nice setup you got there.
The APC 40 is a great controller, not just for Sunlite Suite. :-)
A the moment I have only a AKAI MPD 26 on hand which don´t have feedback pads.
I try to download the manual of the APC 40 from the AkaiPro Site but it´s not available,
the manual could be helpful to know what midi feedback the APC expects to light up the pads.

Did you check in the midi setup of Suite 2 that the midi out is going to your APC 40 ?

Best,

Gernot

APC40 doesn't need manual, all midi assignments can't be changed, doesn't have a software like the Novation Automap, APC40 was built for Ableton Live. I got one Novation 61SL MK2 too
With Sunlite 2 is better to use the APC40 but the led feedback is very important for me.

Yes, sure. We want to support you that you get the feedback working.
But we need to know which commands the APC 40 needs to light up the LED´s in the buttons.
Without a manual this is just wild guessing. I don´t own a APC 40 or APC 20 so I can´t test myself.

Did you check the MIDI out settings in Suite 2 ?

I found the needed MIDI Implementation for the APC 40.
Please try this:

Right click on the top left clip launch pad on the APC 40 console GUI in Suite 2.
click on "Console setup" tab.
Click on "Auto setup MIDI" and press top left clip launch pad on your APC 40 hardware.
Set "Feedback control" and "Feedback when recieved contol data" to "TRUE".
Set "Velocity sended when control is on " to "3" and "Velocity sended when control is off" to "0".

Now the pad should light up in red when you press the pad on your hardware and on the APC 40 GUI in Suite 2.

If you like other colors or blinking pattern, try this values:
1 - Green
2 - Green Flashing
3 - Red
4 - Red Flashing
5 - Orange
6 - Orange Flashing

Ok, the APC40 doesn't have switches that stay in on-off position state all the time. With your settings you can see the illuminated button only if you hold the button pressed. If you release it turns off.

this is what happens when I press the first left upper APC40 button.

I think that Sunlite2 should send midi velocity feedback after having received the status#128, probably the APC resets the received midi data.

I found on the web that Native Instruments Traktor DJ Pro use a particular midi setup to show leds on-off of various controllers.

Hi!
latest news!
I found how to illuminate the leds. I have to run first Ableton Live, close it and then open Sunlite2. The APC40 enter in a mode called "dumb"
Probably you can find how to enable this mode. If I switch off the APC I have to re-run Ableton.

according to the manual there are three modes, but no word about "dumb" mode.
There are three modes that are accepted. The unit defaults to Mode 0 on startup.
Generic Mode
Ableton Live Mode
Alternate Ableton Live Mode
Can you post a screen shot of the MIDI "Console setup" window of the left/top pad, anyway.
There has to be a way to get this going without starting LIVE first.

"Dumb Mode" = Alternate Ableton Live Mode

You really have to enter this mode to get full controll over the pad LED´s and LED on the pots.
The three modes are switched by sending a MIDI Sysex message to the APC,
I think LIVE will do this at startup.
