I/O trigger

Hi,
I just got my brand new SL2048FC, I need to be able to trigger from the I/O ports.
First question: is there some kind of plug that may help for the connections?
In the manual, it says that contact must be set between the 2 and the others... Ok but how can I knwo the numbers of the connectors?
I see a contact plug inside the box, am I supposed to use it too? if yes do I have to make a hole in the box for the wires?
